Road Trip!

Cooper had his first road trip this past weekend to Portsmouth to visit Grandma and Grandpa Gambill and Mamaw and Papaw Salyers. Cooper did pretty good in the car. He slept half way in both directions. We had to stop once just to readjust because his head kept flopping forward when he was asleep. We're still in that paranoid parent stage so we were a little afraid that he couldn't breath. I rode in the back with him the rest of the way to keep him company so he wouldn't fuss.

Grandma was super excited to see Cooper. She couldn't wait to get her hands on him. Her real estate business has kept her so busy that she hasn't been able to visit us for several weeks. Cooper didn't seem to mind and was pretty happy to be in Grandma's arms. Grandma held him all night. Poor Grandpa Bob only got to hold him for a few minutes the first night. He did get to hold him a lot longer on Saturday. They both cuddled up in the recliner and took a long snooze. Grandma and Cooper really bonded. He smiled and cooed at her all weekend.

Mamaw and PapawWe also visited with Mamaw and Papaw. The last time they saw Cooper in person was when he was in the hospital. There was a bit of a standoff over who would hold him first but Mamaw won. The wires attached to Cooper in the NICU made her nervous so this was the first time she held him. They bonded immediately. Papaw kept snatching him away at every opportunity. He sang and rocked him for a long time. Mamaw made a great dinner for us. Her fried chicken is way better than the Colonel's. Chris' cousin Gary also came over for dinner and to visit. He's wrapping up his senior year of high school. His basketball team made it all the way to the Final Four of the state basketball tournament. Chris' uncle Gig also stopped by after work to meet Cooper. Mamaw also made Chris a big country breakfast on Sunday with homemade biscuits and gravy. Bob Evan's has nothing on Mamaw Salyers.

This trip was the first time Cooper slept in his Pack and Play. He slept. Chris and I didn't. We both kept waking up to make sure he was still breating. Parent paranoia. All in all though our first road trip went well. Just the first of many.

We didn't take Cooper's swing with us so Papaw improvised:
